The Acropolis is a wonderful site to behold.  It's great to actually visit a place that I spent so much time studying in Architecture school.  The climb is very steep and the path is not perfect.  Much of the walk is covered in flat marble blocks set in dirt. The blocks have been walked on for years and the marble is now very smooth.  When dry, it is very slippery, and when wet, I imagine it quite dangerous.  I wore flip flops and Janet wore tennis shoes. I had a difficult time in many areas and found that I needed to pay close attention to walking at all times.  Janet said that she had difficulty in tennis shoes as well.

The Acropolis was the only sight on our itinerary and we spent several hours visiting there.  Although it was very hot and uncomfortable, the history and magnificent architecture made it all worth wile.

Day one of our 2000 trip to Europe comes to an end.  The next part of our journey begins.  Two weeks on a sailboat in the Ionian Islands.
